Text Box: PurpleTT

Oh hi, you remembered to have a look at my website!

It’s a place where people can hear my songs without having to use Facespace or Mybook or whatever. Add these two sites to texting, IM and E-M and they are undoubtedly the beginning of the end of real social skills. I give it two generations before the mouth heals up.

But you’re not here to find out my view on the world, you want to hear what I mean when I say my hobby is writing and recording songs.

The batch on the left, which should launch Windows Media Player when you click on one, were all performed by me. So all are © Andy Pennell 2009.

I did all the drums, bass, keyboards, guitar, piano, strings, brass etc. They’re all sung by me, with a bit of help from 21st century technology to make me sound passable. The backing vocals are all me too.

I wrote most of them but there’s a few covers in there, in this day and age of sampling it seems almost unnecessary to credit the writers! But thanks to Stu, Michael and a bloke called Lou Reed.

If you are curious how all this can be achieved using a microphone, a guitar, a keyboard and a bog standard PC all I’ll say is - look at the software I’ve got on it!

* Cubase 4 sequencing software (under Vista 32bit)

* Line 6 GearBox (for DI guitar & modeling)

* Celemony Melodyne CRE8 (To pitch tune the vocals like Cher did)

* Avox 2 (to add harmony, breathiness, throat width, reduce sibilance etc)

* Halion 1 (to provide a lot of staple instrument sounds inc strings, brass and piano—real sounds not synthesised)

* Addictive Drums (real drum sounds not synthesized)

* Steinberg Virtual Guitarist (real guitar…)

* Steinberg Virtual Bassist (guess what…)

* PSP Springverb (nice reverb)

* Nebula 3 VST

* Alpha VST

* Dominator VST

* Embracer VST

* Monologue VST

* Various Compressors, EQs, Limiters, Gates, Expanders, Tube Emulators and Enhancers
